Apizza

That's right Apizza not pizza. If you are from New Haven Connecticut that's what it's called. It is really hard to find this type of pie outside of New Haven. Some of the most famous are from Sally's and Frank Pepe's on Wooster St. I grew up eating Freddy's Grand Apizza on Grand Ave. My father did as well.

Fresh tomatoes are available most of the year at Sally's, even when they are not formally in season.

Picture of a pie from Sally's, notice it's not round and the coal fired ovens are so hot that the edges have a nice Char. They are so large they are served on a sheet pan.

My attempt at a home made version, still not New Haven but still pretty good.
